Interviewing WebQuest Introduction
After emailing a letter of interest and resume to a prospective employer, you receive a phone call scheduling you for a job interview in four days. You need to prepare for the interview by increasing your knowledge of common interview questions, while also learning of illegal questions employers may ask and how to respond to such questions. You understand that employers will also encourage you to ask them questions during the interview, and you want to be prepared for when this happens.
This WebQuest will lead you through a series of websites that will help prepare you for the job interview by examining your personal appearance, body language, and interview questions and answers. By the end of the lesson, you will have a plan of action for preparing for your next job interview.
The Task
You will create an avatar using Voki to answer the common interview question "Tell me about yourself." You will share the link to your avatar on the class edmodo to receive feedback from your peers.
You will review common interview questions and prepare personalized answers utilizing the Interview Question Graphic Organizer. It is best to prepare fifteen to twenty interview questions and practice them with a peer in class.
You will be interviewed by a student from a different class via Skype. You will use the Mock Interview Rubric to help prepare for the interview; the student will also be using the same Mock Interview Rubric to provide feedback about your interviewing skills. The student interviewer has two options for providing you with feedback: the student interviewer may create a fax cover sheet using a template on Microsoft Word and fax the rubric to you or the student interviewer may scan and email the rubric to the designated class email account. The student interviewer will identify how the evaluation will be shared with you at the end of the interview.
You will dress appropriately for a job interview and participate in a Dress for Success Fashion Show in class. The Dress for Success Checklist will help you identify expectations for interview attire, and your peers will use the checklist to provide feedback about the appropriateness of personal hygiene and clothing during the fashion show.
